MVI56-MNET module is a Modbus communication module manufactured by Allen-Bradley and Prosoft Technology. It uses the Modbus TCP/IP protocol and the ControlLogix network and it can be used with a wide variety of applications. It comes with both server and client drivers and functionalities. This general-purpose module can support connections with up to 5 mbap clients by using service port 502 and 5 MNET clients by using service port 2000. The clients on this module variant can easily send messages to more than one server. The MVI56-MNET module is compatible with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix processors. The communication module is equipped with a single RJ 45 serial configuration port, and a single Modbus Ethernet port. The Modbus Ethernet port allows the MNET client variant to communicate with the ControlLogix processor interface easily. The module can be controlled by using the Prosoft discovery software for locating the module on the network and assigning a temporary IP address.

The Allen-Bradley and Prosoft Technology MVI56-MNET communication module comes with a backplane current load of 800 milliamps at 5 Volts DC, and 3 milliamps at 24 Volts DC. The front of the module comes with an LED indicator for the battery status, the application status, and the module status. A display screen is present on the front side that shows the module, version, IP address, application port setting, and the error information. This display screen is a 4-character scrolling, alpha-numeric display. The MVI56-MNET module is backward compatible with all the previous versions of the MNET modules. It features a 10/100 Mbps auto crossover detection Ethernet configuration and an application port. The module comes with user-definable module data memory mapping for up to 5000 16-bit registers at a time.
